Fungus or Mushrooms Growing at the Tree Base
If you see mushrooms or fungal growth around the bottom of your tree, internal decay or root rot is likely happening beneath the surface.
Visible Cracks or Splits in the Bark
Watch for significant vertical or horizontal splits in the bark. These cracks often indicate internal structural weakness in your tree.

Discoloured Leaves or Early Leaf Loss
Leaves turning yellow or brown before autumn or dropping early suggest your tree may be stressed or lacking essential nutrients.
Branches that are Dead or Brittle
Branches without leaves during the growing season or those that snap off easily point to declining health in your tree.
Bark that Peels or Flakes Away
When bark starts flaking off or peeling noticeably, your tree might struggle with insects, disease, or environmental stress.

Heavy Pest or Insect Activity
If you notice increased insect presence, such as wood-boring beetles, aphids, or caterpillars, these pests can gradually weaken your tree’s strength.
Wilted or Drooping Leaves
Leaves appearing limp, shrivelled, or drooping usually indicate issues with water absorption or possibly a disease affecting the tree’s vascular system.

Excessive Sap or Fluid Oozing from the Tree
If your tree leaks excessive sap or fluid (often called slime flux), it likely has internal bacterial or fungal infections.
Damage or Movement at the Tree Roots
Visible roots emerging above ground or soil lifting around the base are signs that your tree’s stability is compromised and should be assessed immediately.

Strange or Rapid Growth Patterns
Rapidly sprouting water shoots or unusual bumps, such as cankers and galls, indicate your tree is under stress or has a disease.
