Commercial Tree Removal at Tribute Communities Centre, Oshawa

Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa with Sarginson tree services chipping equipment and crew on site

The trees along the west side of Oshawa’s Tribute Communities Centre stood close to the arena walls, entrance routes and paved areas. Removing them was about more than cutting trunks down. People and vehicles were nearby, space to move equipment was limited, and underground services had to be considered before the stumps could be ground out.

Sarginson’s Tree Services completed the work in October 2026. The job covered approximately 25 tree removals to ground level, pruning the remaining trees, stump grinding, and removing all logs, branches, and other tree debris. Here’s how the crew approached it.

Working beside a busy arena

These photographs give a good sense of the site. Trees ran alongside the building, with steps, planted beds and pedestrian areas immediately next to the work. The car park and service routes were only a short distance away. That leaves little room for a careless drop or a pile of branches left where someone needs to pass.

We set up work areas around active operations, positioned equipment to suit the available space, and kept the designated work zones clear. As the job progressed, we considered the building, paving, landscaping, and nearby infrastructure.

Around 25 trees removed, with control over each stage

The crew dismantled the trees marked for removal and took them down to ground level. Where access or the surroundings required it, the crew worked in sections rather than felling an entire tree. Our bucket truck provided elevated access, while compact tracked equipment helped handle the cut timber and branches on the ground.

The compact loader gathered cut branches beside the wall, while the chipper and forestry trucks kept material moving off site. That kept the work area manageable as the crew progressed along the building.

Pruning the trees that remained

Not every tree on the west side was removed. We pruned the remaining trees where needed. This included clearance work around the building and infrastructure, and attention to broken, dead or damaged branches where identified.

The aim was to make sensible, selective cuts without unnecessarily stripping away healthy growth. Keeping a tree’s natural structure matters just as much as creating the clearance a property needs.

Stump grinding meant looking below the pavement too

Once the trees were down, the stumps also had to be dealt with. The job required grinding to about eight inches below the existing ground level wherever site conditions and underground utility clearance allowed.

On a developed property, a depth listed in an estimate isn’t a reason to work blindly. The safe grinding depth depends on utility locations and any obstructions beneath the surface. We completed stump grinding with those restrictions in mind. We left the grindings on site to decompose, as specified in the work scope.

Tree removal isn’t finished when the last section hits the ground. The crew processed brush and branches through the high-capacity chipper and loaded the chips into forestry trucks for removal. Logs and other tree debris were hauled away as well.

With removal, pruning, and stump grinding complete, the crew cleaned up the work areas. The stump grindings remained as agreed; the cut wood and loose tree debris did not.

What this Oshawa project shows

Removing trees at a busy venue like Tribute Communities Centre involves more than cutting. With entrances, walkways, landscaping, and parking areas close to the work, we had to consider every stage carefully.

We take the same approach to smaller jobs. Whether we’re removing several trees from a commercial property or pruning a tree beside someone’s house, we consider access, the surrounding property, and what needs protecting before we start.
